About the Department

The department of mathematics was inaugurated in 2009. It is one of the fifteen departments of the Institute. The departments offers B.Sc and M.Sc programmes in mathematics. The department has nine faculty members who are actively involved in regular teaching activities in addition to the research activities. The faculty members of the department specialize in the frontier areas of mathematics. The department also teaches Mathematics to B.Sc (Physics & Chemistry), School of Computing, School Of Commerce., B.B.A students belonging to various arts and science streams. Mathematics is well-prepared to pursue careers as mathematicians, actuaries, statisticians, academics and researchers. Three research projects of the department are financially supported by the leading funding agency, TNSCST. Students get the opportunity to attend seminars, workshop and conference. We invited eminent mathematicians and academician to deliver the lectures. They also have the opportunity for campus placement in various national companies with salary packages exceeding eight lakhs per annum. In addition, Students are trained for government examinations and also have successfully obtained postings through TNPSC.

Vision

The department of mathematics will create source for the promotion of problem solving, analytical thinking and utilizing technology.
The department will build upon its strengths for development of graduate programs in areas of need for the region.

Mission

The mission of the Mathematics department is to provide an environment where students can learn, enabling them to become ultimate learners, and become best competent for struggle in their life.
In pursuing this mission, primary departmental functions are the development, dissemination, and Application of Mathematical knowledge and in the areas of Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Actuarial Science.
